Amaravati: In his first address to the joint session of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and Council, Governor S Abdul Nazeer criticized the state’s bifurcation as unscientific and undemocratic. He claimed that the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, failed to adequately compensate the residual state for lost prosperity and development opportunities.

Abdul Nazeer highlighted inconsistencies in the distribution of assets and liabilities, noting that Andhra Pradesh inherited significant revenue deficits and disproportionate debt while losing access to important institutions and resources. He pointed out that the bifurcation reduced the state’s services sector and per capita income, causing long-term economic strain. The governor also recalled the state’s previous reorganizations and their impacts.

Meanwhile, the TDP-led coalition government is actively addressing these issues, having recently met with Telangana’s leadership to form a high-level committee to resolve ongoing post-bifurcation disputes.
