

Senior Congress leader, Former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has passed away today. Chandy aged 79 was not keeping well for some time and he was admitted to a private hospital in Bengaluru where he breathed his last. Oommen Chandy is staying in Bengaluru since November last year. Chandy who served as the CM of Kerala twice has suffered from throat cancer.
The Kerala government declared a public holiday today and two mourning days as a mark of respect for the veteran leader. His mortal remains will be shifted for the funeral which will be conducted at his home parish at Puthupally on Wednesday. Oommen Chandy is the longest-ser legislator in the history of Kerala politics. He served as an MLA for an uninterrupted 53 years.
He was elected as the MLA for the first time in 1970 from his home constituency Puthupally in Kottayam district. Condolences started to pour in and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan remembered his long-time association with Chandy.
