Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy will be visiting the Polavaram project for review today. YS Jagan will be foreseeing the progress of the project and conduct a review meeting thereafter. Jagan last visited the project in March 2022 along with Union Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. The state government has promised to complete the entire project before the assembly elections but the damage to the diaphragm wall and other components has delayed the project completion at least by two years.
The state government updated the status of Polavaram to the center that the first phase of the project will be completed by June 2024 and the funds should be released accordingly. The state has also requested to allow it to complete the project to the estimated height of 45.25 meters. With the delay in the permissions, the government has asked to give clearance to complete the first phase with at least 41.25 meters in height. The central government has now sanctioned Rs. 12,911 Crores for this project.
