Hyderabad: Recalling former US President Bill Clinton’s visit to Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu revealed that Clinton himself had expressed a keen interest in visiting the city, without any formal invitation from the state government.
Speaking at the Republic Plenary Summit, Naidu explained that he refrained from inviting Clinton, as he was unsure whether the former President would accept. However, Clinton’s fascination with Hyderabad led him to visit the city around 2001 or 2002.

“At that time, Hyderabad had become a global attraction. Bill Clinton came, but I never invited him, thinking he might not accept. However, he told me that after visiting India, Hyderabad was a must-visit destination,” Naidu said.
Hyderabad’s Global IT Transformation
The Chief Minister reminisced about his conversation with Clinton, where the former US President mentioned that international magazines had extensively covered Hyderabad’s IT growth, influencing his decision to visit.
“I asked him, ‘Who told you to come here?’ He replied, ‘Nobody told me. I read so many articles in international magazines. If I visit India, I must visit Hyderabad.’”
Highlighting his vision for Hyderabad’s IT revolution, Naidu credited key infrastructure and education initiatives for shaping the city into a major technology hub and driving the Telugu community to achieve the highest per capita income among Indians globally.
“We laid a strong foundation. 25 years ago, I started constructing a high-tech building, marking the beginning. Then, I focused on setting up engineering colleges. Today, because of these efforts, our people have migrated worldwide and excelled in the tech industry,” he said.
