Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has yesterday inaugurated the Machilipatnam port works. He unveiled a pylon and offered prayers at the sea to mark the commencement of the work. The construction of the port which has an initial capacity of 35 million tons, is scheduled to be completed in two years. Interestingly, it is the third time that the foundation stone has been laid for this project.

It was way back in 2008, the Chief Minister of United Andhra Pradesh YS Rajasekhara Reddy laid the foundation stone for the first time but the work never took off. In 2013, N Kiran Kumar Reddy promised to start the developmental outcomes but never did. In February 2019, the then CM, Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for the second time but the works couldn’t progress as there was a government change immediately.

So, over the period of 15 years, three times the foundation stone has been laid but not even a small developmental work has progressed.
