Visakhapatnam: The Kondadora tribe of Buriga village in Ananthagiri Mandal staged a protest, carrying empty vessels on their heads, demanding access to clean drinking water. The village, home to 40 families and 180 individuals, has been deprived of safe drinking water for a long time, forcing residents to consume contaminated well water, leading to frequent illnesses.

Villagers, including Somula Chandramma, Somula Sannamma, and Buruga Kothamma, approached PO Abhishek Goud to request a drinking water facility and road construction. Despite a borewell and water pump installation under the Jal Jeevan Mission in 2023, the project remains incomplete due to a lack of electricity connection.

With no progress in sight even after two months, residents continue to suffer. The open well water, filled with garbage and algae, has caused cold, fever, and infections among several villagers, including children and elderly residents like Buriga Ravi (6) and Somulu Kothamma (56), who are receiving treatment at S. Kota Area Hospital.

A medical camp was set up by PHC officials to address health concerns, but the villagers demand immediate action to resolve the water crisis.
