The Chief Election Commission today has put a pause button on the Rythu Bandhu scheme in Telangana. The Election Commission said in a statement, “There shall be no disbursement under the Scheme till the Model Code of Conduct in the State of Telangana ceases to apply in all its forms.”
This is going to be a setback for the BRS government with the Rythu Bandhu being stopped. Rythu Bandhu permission was recently given by the Election Commission to disburse financial aid to farmers for rabi crops under this scheme. However, the permission was taken back when a minister violated the provisions of the model code by making a public announcement about it.
The government was asked not to publicize the disbursement of the scheme during the poll as a part of the election code. But with the rule broken, the Election Commission has chosen to withdraw the permission.
