Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam is set to host a state-of-the-art Secondary Level Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Medical Management Centre, aimed at delivering specialized medical care for victims of industrial accidents. The facility, approved by the central government, will be established on the premises of the Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS).
VIMS Director Dr. K. Rambabu announced that the Andhra Pradesh state health department has given the green light for the centre, which will focus on providing immediate treatment for injuries related to fire and exposure to hazardous materials. The initiative comes as a critical step in enhancing the city’s emergency response capabilities, particularly given its extensive industrial landscape.
The CBRN Centre will be equipped with advanced medical infrastructure and trained personnel to manage a range of emergencies, including chemical spills, biological threats, radiological incidents, and nuclear hazards. By offering prompt and effective treatment, the facility aims to mitigate the impact of such accidents and save lives.
This initiative highlights Visakhapatnam’s commitment to ensuring public safety and supporting its industrial growth. Once operational, the centre will position the city as a leader in disaster management and medical preparedness in the region.
