The famous Pashupatinath Temple in Nepal was closed for devotees on June 25th, Sunday over missing gold reports. It is said that 10 kg of gold is missing from 100 kg of ornament in the temple. Pashupatinath is the oldest Hindu temple in Kathmandu. During the Mahashiva Ratri festivities last year, the newly installed gold ornament Jalhari was installed around the Shiva Linga in the temple.
With the missing gold reports, the Nepal Government ordered directed the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), the top constitutional body for the control of corruption, to start the investigation. The temple was closed on June 25th as a process of investigation.
The Pashupati Area Development Authority claimed that it had bought 103 kg of gold to make Jalhari but now 10 kg of gold from it is missing. Huge security personnel including the Army were deployed at the temple. It is said that devotees were prohibited inside the temple premises until midnight.
