Washington, D.C.: Ken Martin, the longtime leader of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party, has been elected as the new Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), securing 246 votes out of 428 in the first round. Martin, who has served as a DNC vice chair for eight years, defeated Wisconsin Democratic Party Chair Ben Wikler and former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley.

With the Democratic Party facing political headwinds under the second Trump administration, Martin pledged to strengthen party infrastructure and take an aggressive stance. “We’re going to take this fight to Donald Trump,” he declared in his victory speech.

The leadership change comes amid growing Democratic concerns over political messaging, voter outreach, and internal transparency. Martin’s priorities will include unifying the party, fundraising, and guiding the 2028 presidential nomination process.

Alongside Martin, DNC members elected seven additional officers, including gun control activist David Hogg and Pennsylvania State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta as vice chairs.

As Democrats seek to recover from the 2024 losses, Martin aims to rebuild trust and mobilize voters nationwide. His ability to engage grassroots organizers and boost state-level investments will be crucial in shaping the party’s future.
