Washington DC: External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar represented India at the swearing-in ceremony of Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States in Washington, DC. Sharing his experience on X, Jaishankar expressed his privilege in attending the historic event as a special envoy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Privileged to represent India as External Affairs Minister and Special Envoy of PM at the Swearing-In Ceremony of the 47th President of the United States of America today in Washington, DC,” Jaishankar posted. He also participated in the Inauguration Day Prayer Service at St. John’s Church.
Jaishankar delivered a letter from PM Modi to President Trump, signifying strong India-US ties. During his visit, he also engaged with his counterparts from Australia and Japan, discussing bilateral matters and QUAD initiatives.
The QUAD, a strategic alliance of Australia, India, Japan, and the US, gained prominence under Trump’s first term and was elevated to a leadership-level dialogue during Joe Biden’s administration.
The second term of Trump’s administration is set to prioritize QUAD, with Marco Rubio likely to convene its ministerial meeting upon his confirmation as Secretary of State. This highlights the grouping’s importance in advancing regional stability and cooperation.
