Hyderabad: Hyderabad has reported Telangana’s first case of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), a rare but serious neurological disorder. A woman from Siddipet has been diagnosed with GBS and is currently receiving treatment at KIMS Hospital, Hyderabad.
The outbreak of GBS has already caused panic in Maharashtra, with over 130 suspected cases in Pune alone. West Bengal has also reported three deaths, including that of a child, within the last four days.

What is Guillain-Barré Syndrome?
GBS is an autoimmune disorder where the immune system mistakenly attacks the nerves, leading to weakness, numbness, muscle paralysis, and respiratory complications. It is often triggered by bacterial or viral infections, particularly through contaminated food and water.
Symptoms & Causes
Doctors warn that contaminated food and water are the primary carriers of the bacteria responsible for triggering GBS. Symptoms include:
Tingling and numbness in the body
Muscle weakness and paralysis
Fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain
No Need to Panic
Health officials emphasize that GBS is not contagious and can be treated with hospital care and supportive therapies. Citizens are advised to maintain proper hygiene, consume clean food and water, and seek immediate medical help if symptoms appear.
