Silvassa: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 7 highlighted the need for fitness, calling obesity the “root cause of many diseases” while addressing a public gathering in Silvassa. Citing a report that predicts nearly 44 crore Indians may be obese by 2050, the PM urged citizens to take proactive steps in managing their health.

Highlighting the growing health concerns linked to lifestyle diseases, Modi advised people to reduce their cooking oil intake by 10%, stating that small dietary changes could help in combating obesity. The Prime Minister, who is on a two-day visit to South Gujarat, also participated in a roadshow in Silvassa before addressing the public.

During his visit, Modi inaugurated Phase I of the 450-bed NAMO Hospital and Research Centre, built at a cost of Rs 460 crore, aiming to enhance healthcare services in the region. He also laid foundation stones for multiple development projects worth Rs 2,587 crore.

Meanwhile, in Gujarat’s Limbayat, a police sub-inspector was transferred after a video of him hitting a boy who accidentally entered the PM’s convoy route went viral.
