Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president YS Sharmila claimed on Wednesday that she was placed under house arrest in her Vijayawada residence while on her way to the state Congress office. Taking to social media, Sharmila questioned the state government’s actions, tagging Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan.
“Why am I under house arrest for simply trying to reach my workplace?” she asked, accusing the government of curbing her constitutional rights. She also criticized the heavy police presence outside her home and alleged manhandling by officials.
Sharmila was scheduled to attend a meeting of the Congress party’s Amaravati Capital Committee ahead of Prime Minister Modi’s visit. She condemned the police action as an attempt to suppress dissent and questioned what the government was trying to hide.
Following her release, Sharmila addressed supporters gathered outside her residence, reiterating her commitment to the Congress cause and the Amaravati capital issue.
