The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) reported that 327 cases of US student visas being revoked or terminated have been documented recently, with nearly half of those affected being Indian nationals. According to AILA’s policy brief, which cited reports from students, attorneys, and university staff, Indians represent 50% of the cases, followed by 14% from China, with other notable countries including South Korea, Nepal, and Bangladesh.
Indians continue to make up the largest international student cohort in the US, with 3,31,602 students enrolled in the 2023-24 academic year, accounting for 29% of all international students. This is according to data from Open Doors, which also reported that China follows with 2.77 lakh students. The recent visa revocations have raised concerns among international students, particularly from India.
