The United States saw a surge in student visa denials during the 2023-24 fiscal year, with 41% of F-1 visa applications rejected. This marks the highest rejection rate in over a decade, nearly double the rate from the 2014 fiscal year.
Out of 6.79 lakh F-1 visa applications received, 2.79 lakh were denied. This reflects a significant increase from the previous year (2022-23), when 36% of applications were turned down. The rise in denials has raised concerns among international students, especially from countries like India, where a large number of applicants are affected.
The US State Department’s data shows a continuing trend of increasing visa denials, with many potential students facing hurdles in securing the necessary visa to study abroad.
