The auspicious day of Ugadi will be celebrated on March 22nd this year in the states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. The day marks the start of the Hindu New Year. While in Maharashtra and Goa, this day was observed as Gudi Padwa, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka will see this as Ugadi.

Ugadi as the name suggests is Yugadi, which marks new beginnings. It gives a new hope that the next coming days are going to be fruitful. It is believed that Lord Brahma created the world on this day. In the 12th century, the Hindu mathematician Bhaskaracharya recognized Ugadi as the start of the new year.

The day will be celebrated with a traditional oil bath, followed by prayers. People will savor the Ugadi Pachadi (pickle). Next, Panchanga Sravanam will be interpreted by knowledgeable people based on the people’s moon signs.
