Former U.S. President Donald Trump has voiced strong opposition to Apple’s growing manufacturing presence in India. Speaking at an event in Qatar, Trump revealed he recently urged Apple CEO Tim Cook not to expand production facilities in India, instead recommending that manufacturing return to the U.S.

Referring to India as one of the world’s highest tariff-imposing nations, Trump criticized the difficulties American companies face in selling products there. Apple has been steadily shifting production from China to India, producing $22 billion worth of iPhones in India last fiscal year—a 60% increase from the previous year. Despite this, Trump expressed hope that Apple will boost its U.S.-based operations following their discussion.
