US President Donald Trump has warned Apple that iPhones produced in India or other countries will be subject to a 25% tariff if they are not assembled in the United States. Trump reiterated his demand for Apple to reshore its iPhone production to the U.S. in a post on Truth Social, stating that if Apple fails to comply, they will face a significant tariff on imported iPhones. Despite the tariff, Trump noted that even with the added cost, iPhones would still be cheaper for U.S. consumers than domestically assembled devices.
The warning comes after a recent speech in Doha, where Trump urged Apple CEO Tim Cook to move production out of India, saying the U.S. had supported Apple’s operations in China for years and was not interested in India handling production. Apple has increasingly sourced iPhone parts from around the world, with much of the assembly taking place in China and India. However, assembling iPhones in the U.S. would significantly increase production costs due to higher labor expenses.
