Telangana has ranked second among southern states in food adulteration cases from 2021 to September 2024, according to data shared by Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav. Out of 15,702 food samples tested in the state, 2,387 (around 15%) were found to be adulterated, violating the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) norms.

Tamil Nadu reported the highest adulteration rate in the south, with 22.59% of its samples contaminated. Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Karnataka followed with adulteration rates of 8.82%, 13.02%, and 5.74%, respectively.

This concerning trend highlights the need for increased vigilance and consumer awareness in the region to ensure food safety.
