The Telangana High Court has raised concerns about the State government’s plan to auction 400 acres of forest land near Hyderabad. The court issued notices to the government after a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed by the Vata Foundation, an environmental NGO.
The NGO argued that the land, located in Kancha Gachibowli, is part of an Ecologically Sensitive Zone (ESZ) and should be preserved as a national park, not sold for commercial development. The government plans to use the land for IT infrastructure, valued at Rs 75 crore per acre.
The court has asked the government to respond within 10 days. The case will be heard again on April 7.
