Following the Supreme Court’s directive to halt the “alarming deforestation activities” in the Kancha Gachibowli forested area near the University of Hyderabad (UoH), the Telangana government has decided to form a ministerial committee to address the ongoing land dispute. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced the formation of the committee on Thursday night, which will include Ministers Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, D. Sridhar Babu, and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy.

The committee will consult with UoH’s executive council, the joint action group (JAC), civil society organizations, and student groups to find a resolution. In a joint statement, Vikramarka and Babu assured adherence to the Supreme Court’s orders and committed to submitting the requested information within the deadline. They also instructed local authorities to refrain from harsh actions toward students. Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar called for proper dialogue between the government and students to address the situation and clarify the facts.
