Several students of Hyderabad Central University (HCU) were taken into preventive custody by Cyberabad police on Sunday for protesting against the State government’s plans to auction 400 acres of land near the university in Kancha Gachibowli. The students were attempting to halt leveling works at the site, using earth movers, to prevent the auction, which the government said would mobilize financial resources.

The protestors, including some female students, raised slogans condemning the government’s decision, highlighting the land’s ecological importance as a source of oxygen due to its surrounding trees and wildlife. As tensions rose, police took action, detaining the students and clearing the area. Some students criticized the police’s handling of the protest, sharing videos of the incident. A special police picket was set up to maintain order near the university.
