In a significant move to protect citizens from the dangers of online betting, the Telangana government has taken decisive action. Despite a ban on online betting apps since 2017, these platforms continue to thrive, often targeting the youth and causing financial losses. Many of these apps are operated from overseas, and their promotions are largely fueled by social media influencers. To combat this, the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has successfully blocked 133 apps since January 2025. Additionally, the state government has set up a WhatsApp helpline at 8712672222 for the public to report illegal betting apps. This initiative allows citizens to directly report these platforms, helping authorities take swift action.
