The recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 people, has been claimed by the Resistance Front (TRF), a group linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba. Experts have pointed out three primary reasons behind the attack.
Firstly, the timing of the attack coincided with the visit of U.S. Vice President, JD Vance, to India. Terrorist groups often carry out such acts to keep the Kashmir issue alive in international discourse. Secondly, the attack comes at a time when tensions between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are escalating. Pakistan’s growing ties with Iran and Saudi Arabia’s reluctance to publicly criticize India over Article 370’s revocation may have motivated the attack. Finally, experts suggest that the attack was likely an attempt to instill fear among tourists visiting the region. Since the revocation of Article 370, Kashmir has seen an influx of tourists, and the attack could have been aimed at discouraging this development, preventing non-locals from investing or settling in the region.
