Viewers who tuned in to view the qualifiers and eliminator of the Indian Premier League latest version might have been surprised why green trees were displayed on the screen in place of the dot balls. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has started a big initiative called the green dot ball initiative where they will plant 500 trees for every dot ball played in the playoffs.
Under this program, BCCI has partnered with the TATA group and will be planting trees for the four games in the playoffs. As a result of this initiative, the green tree emoji was displayed in place of the dot balls. As of now, more than 70K trees will be planted as a part of this initiative.
Currently, two of the four playoff games were completed. Chennai Super Kings have reached the finals for the record 10th time and Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans will face off in the qualifier 2.
