Indians incurred significant financial losses in 2024 due to rejected Schengen visa applications, totaling ₹136 crore. Over 1.65 lakh applications were declined, with each application costing an average of €85 (₹8,270). This places India third among countries with the highest losses from failed Schengen visa applications, trailing only Algeria and Turkey. The large number of rejections has raised concerns about the growing challenges faced by Indian applicants in obtaining visas for travel to Europe’s Schengen Area.
