Usha Vance, wife of U.S. Vice President JD Vance, has drawn attention during the couple’s ongoing visit to India for her deep-rooted connection to Andhra Pradesh. An Indian-American, Usha was born in the United States to parents who emigrated from Andhra Pradesh in the late 1970s.
Speaking about her background in past interviews, Usha has shared that her parents are Hindu and come from a strong academic tradition — her father is a mechanical engineer and her grandfather and father were both associated with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). A Yale and Cambridge graduate, Usha has played a key role alongside JD Vance in his political and community efforts. The Vances’ visit has sparked interest in India, particularly in Andhra Pradesh, where many have welcomed the recognition of her heritage.
