Former ISRO chief Dr. K. Kasturirangan passed away at the age of 84. Kasturirangan, who led the Indian Space Research Organisation from 1994 to 2003, played a pivotal role in making ISRO self-reliant and spearheading major missions like Chandrayaan. Under his leadership, ISRO overcame international restrictions, including access to cryogenic technology, and achieved significant milestones in India’s space program.
Kasturirangan also served as a Rajya Sabha member and contributed to various national advisory roles, including in higher education, technology, and environmental policy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences.
