A viral message on social media claiming the launch of a new central scheme, ‘PM Modi AC Yojana 2025’, offering free 5-star air conditioners to citizens, has been declared fake by the government. The post claimed that people above 18 years could register to receive a free AC within 30 days, with over 1.5 crore units supposedly ready for distribution. It even directed users to a power company’s website for registration.
However, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has clarified that no such scheme exists. The Ministry of Power, under Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, has not announced any such program. PIB Fact Check urged the public not to fall for such fake messages circulating on platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram.
