Telangana Police have formally requested US authorities to deport former Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) chief T Prabhakar Rao, the main accused in the phone tapping case linked to the 2023 assembly elections. His Indian passport has been revoked, and a red corner notice issued by Interpol.
Rao, currently in the US, is accused of orchestrating illegal surveillance targeting political opponents, including CM Revanth Reddy. He has sought political asylum, alleging a witch-hunt. A Telangana court recently rejected his plea for protection from arrest. Four senior cops and a media executive are co-accused in the case.
