Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Axar Patel has been fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during his team’s 12-run defeat to Mumbai Indians (MI) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match. In this game, MI scored 205/5 in their 20 overs, while DC were all out for 193 in 19 overs.

Slow over-rate penalties are common in the IPL, with fines increasing for repeated offences. For instance, MI captain Hardik Pandya was fined ₹30 lakh and suspended for one match due to multiple slow over-rate violations in the 2024 season.

Teams are expected to maintain a minimum over-rate, completing their 20 overs within 90 minutes, including strategic timeouts. Failure to do so results in fines for the captain, with other players also facing penalties in cases of repeated offences.
