Chief Minister Revanth Reddy officially launched the ‘Indira Saura Giri Jala Vikasam’ scheme on Monday in Macharam village, Amrabad mandal, Nagarkurnool district. The initiative aims to provide solar-powered borewells for irrigation across 6 lakh acres of tribal land currently lacking electricity. This move follows the distribution of podu pattas under the Forest Rights Act, benefiting 2.3 lakh ST farmers over 6.69 lakh acres.
Farmers with over 2.5 acres will get individual units, while smaller landholders will be grouped into borewell user collectives. The Tribal Welfare Department will identify eligible farmers by May 25, with field surveys running until June 10. Work on land development, borewell drilling, and solar pump installations will begin from June 25 and continue until March 2026. In its first phase, the scheme will benefit 10,000 farmers across 27,184 acres with an initial budget of ₹600 crore.
