India will carry out nationwide civil defence mock drills in 244 districts From May 7th, including those considered vulnerable to security threats. These drills, coordinated by the Ministry of Home Affairs, are not routine—they reflect growing national security concerns, especially after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack and continued ceasefire violations by Pakistan.

Key activities will include the sounding of air raid sirens, blackout simulations (switching off lights to reduce visibility during potential night-time aerial attacks), evacuation rehearsals, and camouflaging of vital infrastructure like power plants and communication hubs. Participants—ranging from Civil Defence wardens and Home Guards to NCC cadets, students, and volunteers—will be involved in real-time crisis training.

Public awareness sessions will also be held in schools, colleges, and offices, focusing on sheltering, first aid, and calm response during emergencies. The drills aim to strengthen coordination between civil authorities and emergency services, ensuring both readiness and public participation in times of potential national threats.
