Starting today, ATM transactions beyond the free monthly limit will cost more, as per the latest directive from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Customers are now entitled to five free transactions per month at their own bank’s ATMs. In metro cities, they can also avail of three free transactions at other banks’ ATMs, while non-metro customers get five.
For any transaction beyond these free limits—financial or non-financial—banks can now charge up to Rs 23 per transaction, up from the previous Rs 21. This change also applies to services availed at Cash Recycler Machines (CRMs), excluding cash deposits.
These rules are applicable across all commercial banks, regional rural banks, co-operative banks, and authorized ATM operators. The interchange fee between banks remains at Rs 19 for financial and Rs 7 for non-financial transactions.
The revised charges are expected to slightly increase customer costs, especially for frequent ATM users.
