YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) faced another setback as Zakia Khanam, the Deputy Chairperson of the Legislative Council, resigned from her MLC position. Her unexpected resignation has stirred speculation within the party, with reports suggesting she may join the BJP.
Khanam reportedly met BJP leaders, including state president Daggubati Purandeswari and Minister Satya Kumar, fueling rumors of her switch. She had sent her resignation letter to the party leadership on Tuesday night.
This marks another blow to YSRCP, as the party continues to face defections, especially following its poor performance in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections. Khanam was nominated as an MLC by the Governor in July 2020.
