The Andhra Pradesh government has launched the ‘Smart Street Project’ to support street vendors by providing modern container shops as a sustainable alternative to roadside pushcarts. Piloted in Nellore, the initiative is now being expanded to other cities, including Srikakulam.
Under the scheme, 200 container shops will be set up across the state, featuring secure structures, solar power, free WiFi, and modern amenities. Part of the National Urban Livelihood Mission, the project aims to reduce traffic congestion, improve urban cleanliness, and offer permanent, dignified business spaces for small traders.
