The Andhra Pradesh state cabinet has approved a new initiative to provide free electricity to handloom workers and power loom units as part of efforts to support the textile sector. Under this new scheme, handloom workers will receive up to 200 units of free electricity per month, while power loom units will be entitled to up to 500 units.
This policy will benefit approximately 93,000 handloom families and 10,000 power loom units across the state. The government has issued the necessary orders to implement the scheme. However, any consumption beyond the allocated limits will incur additional charges.
This move is aimed at easing the financial burden on handloom workers and power loom operators, helping sustain their livelihoods and encourage growth in the textile sector.
