Visakhapatnam: As the city gears up to welcome the New Year, Police Commissioner Shankha Brata Bagchi has issued a set of strict guidelines to ensure safe and orderly celebrations. Hotels, restaurants, pubs, and clubs hosting New Year’s Eve events must adhere to the regulations, including concluding all activities by 1 AM on January 1.

Organizers planning special events are required to obtain prior permission from the authorities. The commissioner highlighted the installation of CCTV cameras at event venues for effective monitoring and warned against indecent content or excessive noise levels, with strict action promised against violators.

A zero-tolerance approach will be taken against drug use at these gatherings, and stringent measures are in place for drunk driving offenses. Those caught driving under the influence could face fines of up to Rs 10,000, six months of imprisonment, and suspension or permanent revocation of their driving licenses.

Commissioner Bagchi also encouraged women to seek help from the SHE Teams if they encounter any issues during the celebrations.

The guidelines aim to promote a safe and enjoyable environment for all residents and visitors as they celebrate the arrival of 2025.
