Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli has announced his retirement from Test cricket, bringing the curtains down on an illustrious 14-year career. The 36-year-old revealed the decision via a heartfelt message on social media, just weeks ahead of India’s Test series against England.
Kohli, who made his Test debut in 2011 against the West Indies, retires as India’s fourth-highest run-scorer in the format with 9,230 runs from 123 matches, including 30 centuries and 31 fifties. His highest score was an unbeaten 254 against South Africa in 2019.
Reflecting on his journey, Kohli wrote, “It’s tested me, shaped me, and taught me lessons I’ll carry for life. I’ve given it everything I had, and it’s given me back so much more.”
His retirement follows closely on the heels of Rohit Sharma’s exit from Tests on May 7, marking the end of an era in Indian cricket.
