The U.S. Embassy in India has issued a strong advisory to Indian and international students, warning that student visas can be revoked if students skip classes, drop out, or leave academic programs without notifying their institutions. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the embassy urged students to strictly follow visa regulations or risk losing eligibility for future U.S. visas.
This warning follows an Associated Press report that over 4,700 international students lost their study permissions this spring, often without warning, due to enhanced immigration enforcement. Many were unaware their records had been removed from the SEVIS tracking system. In 2023, the U.S. consular team in India issued over 140,000 student visas, the highest for any country, underscoring the potential impact of the enforcement measures.
