In a groundbreaking discovery, scientists using the James Webb Space Telescope have detected potential signs of life beyond our solar system on the exoplanet K2-18b. Researchers found molecules—dimethyl sulfide (DMS) and dimethyl disulfide (DMDS)—which on Earth are typically produced by microorganisms like marine phytoplankton.

While not confirming actual alien life, the researchers believe these gases could be a biosignature, indicating the potential for microbial life on the planet. Lead researcher Professor Nikku Madhusudhan from Cambridge University cautioned that further data is needed, but he expressed hope that conclusive evidence could be obtained within the next one to two years.
