Amaravati: Onion prices have surged past Rs 50 per kilogram, with other vegetables like tomatoes and brinjals following suit. In open markets, onions are currently priced between Rs 55 and Rs 60 per kg. However, traders expect prices to decline in the coming days as the central government is preparing to release onion stocks.
In Vijayawada, Maharashtra onions are selling at Rs 55 per kg, while Kurnool onions are priced at Rs 42 per kg.

Other vegetables have also seen a price hike due to a decrease in production caused by erratic rainfall. Tomatoes, which were Rs 26 per kg at the beginning of September, are now priced at Rs 40. Brinjal has increased to Rs 40 per kg, while other vegetables like cauliflower, carrots, and potatoes range between Rs 35 and Rs 45 per kg.
Meanwhile, the price of cooking oils, which spiked after import duty hikes earlier this month, has started to decrease following government intervention.
