Chennai: Tamil superstar and politician Kamal Haasan is reportedly set to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the DMK. As per sources, Tamil Nadu Minister PK Sekar Babu recently met Kamal Haasan and confirmed the nomination. The Rajya Sabha elections are scheduled for July, and six seats from Tamil Nadu will be vacant by June.
Kamal Haasan’s political party, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), had extended its support to the DMK alliance in the last Lok Sabha elections. As part of this political understanding, CM MK Stalin had reportedly assured a Rajya Sabha seat for MNM in 2025. The latest developments indicate that Stalin is honoring his promise, paving the way for Kamal Haasan’s entry into the Upper House.
Earlier, Kamal Haasan had stated that his party’s support for the DMK alliance was for the country’s welfare, and he had no aspirations for any political position. However, with the minister’s recent visit to Haasan’s residence, the speculations have gained momentum.
If confirmed, this move will mark a significant milestone in Kamal Haasan’s political career, further strengthening his influence in Tamil Nadu politics.
