Bengaluru: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) marked a monumental milestone today with its 100th launch, successfully placing the NVS-02 satellite into orbit. The launch took place from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 6:23 a.m., using the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-F15).
ISRO Chairman Dr. V. Narayanan, who assumed office earlier this month, confirmed that the mission had been completed successfully, with the satellite positioned in its intended orbit. The NVS-02 satellite, part of the Indian Navigation Satellite System (INSS), is equipped with advanced navigation and ranging payloads, enhancing India’s capabilities in the satellite navigation sector.
The GSLV-F15 mission is also noteworthy for its use of indigenous cryogenic technology, marking the 17th flight of the GSLV and the 8th successful mission with an indigenous cryogenic stage. The satellite, developed at the U. R. Satellite Centre, will replace the IRNSS-1E satellite, reinforcing the robustness of India’s space infrastructure.
This milestone is a testament to ISRO’s relentless pursuit of excellence, with its journey beginning in 1979 with the partial success of SLV-3 E10. ISRO continues to build on its legacy, propelling India into the global space race.
