It is known that a considerable number of Hindus live in Pakistan as well. Most of the Hindus in Pakistan live in Sindh Province. It is estimated that over 8 percent population in Sindh province are Hindus. Umerkot district in the Sindh province has the highest number of Hindus, (more than 50 percent). So it is not shocking news that Pakistan does have temples. Some of them are thousand years old and they have huge significance.

Umarkot Shiv Mandir in the Umerkot district is one of the most ancient temples in the world and it is said that it is nearly 2,000 years old. According to the legend, The Shiv Ling in the temple grows by itself, and to prove it the devotees made a mark around the ling, and clearly, Shiv Ling crossed the mark.

The legend says that a man used to feed cows in this year 2,000 years back and surprisingly one of his cows used to go somewhere else and return. One day he closely observed the cow and shockingly noticed the cow giving milk to a Ling. Thus, Shiv Mandir was built. Every year on Maha Shivratri, the temple authorities conduct massive three-day festivities. This is one of the biggest religious events and is estimated that around 2,50,000 devotees visit the temple during Maha Shivaratri.
