Haryana: Haryana-based Dera Sacha Sauda chief, Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who is serving a jail sentence for a rape conviction, was granted a 30-day parole and released on January 28. His close aide, Honeypreet Insan, personally arrived at the jail to escort him.

Following his release, Ram Rahim is set to head directly to the Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters in Sirsa, where grand preparations have been made for his arrival. The parole allows him to stay outside for a month, marking another controversial episode in his criminal timeline.

Previously, in October 2024, Ram Rahim was granted parole for 20 days, during which he resided at the Barnawa Ashram in Uttar Pradesh. However, restrictions were imposed, preventing him from participating in election-related activities or entering Haryana during that time.

In 2017, Ram Rahim was sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping two of his followers. Additionally, he was convicted in a journalist’s murder case alongside three others, which further added to his notoriety.

His parole has sparked debates, given the gravity of his convictions and the significant political and social influence he continues to wield.
