Anantapur: Cyber fraud has become a growing concern in India, with scammers continually finding new ways to deceive people and steal money. The latest target is the Aadhaar-Enabled Payment System (AePS), a service designed to offer easy banking access to the public.

Unfortunately, this service is being misused for fraud, with numerous cases being reported across various states. In Anantapur alone, over 10 AePS-related fraud cases were registered in a single day.
Scammers obtain biometric data, like fingerprints, from government documents such as land records and use this information to withdraw money from victims’ bank accounts. Though the Reserve Bank has placed withdrawal limits on AePS transactions, fraudsters extract funds in stages, making detection harder.
To protect against AePS fraud, individuals are advised to use a masked Aadhaar card, generate a Virtual ID (VID), and disable AePS and lock their biometric data through the UIDAI website or mAadhaar app.
