The makers of L2: Empuraan have agreed to make 17 changes to the film following a controversy over its depiction of the 2002 Gujarat riots. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), after reviewing the film post-intervention from the Centre, directed the production team to revise certain scenes, particularly those related to riot sequences and violence against women. The revised version is expected to be submitted by Monday for approval, paving the way for the film’s continued screening.

The film, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and starring Mohanlal, released on March 27 and has since broken box office records, becoming the fastest Malayalam film to gross ₹100 crores globally. Despite the controversy, L2: Empuraan has been a massive success, marking a milestone as the highest-grossing Malayalam film overseas.
