At least five persons including two women and three men were feared dead and several others were injured today in a blast that happened inside Sahithi Pharmaceutical Factory in the Achyutapuram SEZ in Anakapalli, Andhra Pradesh. Industries Minister Gudivada Amarnath said that the massive fire occurred after a solvent reactor blast at the Pharma factory. A massive fire engulfed the factory and a thick black smoke means people ran out of the area in panic mode.

It is said that the explosion happened when the solvents were being boiled at high temperatures. The fire spread quickly to the heavy storage liquid tanks and the second unit of the Pharma factory. Currently, the rescue operations are underway and four fire engines are putting in their efforts to bring down the fire. Those who got burns and were injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital.

The adjacent Laurus labs were also alerted as it is expected to have large reserves of solvents. More details about this blast will be out very soon.
